Pakwan Dal

Serving: 4 Preparation time: Several hrs Ingredients: For the dal: Channa dal: 1 cup Tamarind chutney: 2 tb Garam masala: 1/2 ts Red chilly powder: 1/2 ts  powder: 1/2 ts Dried mango powder: 1/2 ts Turmeric powder: 1/4 ts Salt: To taste Ghee: 2 tb For the pakwan: Plain flour: 2 cups Ghee: 2 tb Salt: 1/2 ts Water: To make dough Ghee or oil for deep frying: 250 g The Steps: Pre - Preparation : Wash and soak channa dal for 5-6 hrs. Preparation : For the pakwan: 1) Mix ghee, salt into flour and knead into a soft pliable dough. 2) Make small-sized balls. 3) Roll into thin puries and prick all over with a fork or knife. 4) Deep fry in hot oil/ghee till light brown and crisp. 5) Drain, keep aside. Or cool before storing. For the dal: 1) Place dal to boil with 3 cups of water. 2) Add salt and turmeric. 3) Boil till tender but not mushy. 4) Stir in tamarind chutney. 5) Just before serving sprinkle all masala powders over dal. 6) Heat ghee in a small pan. 7) When smoking hot pour over the dal and masalas. 8) Serve hot with pakwan. Calories: 1186 per serving Left - Over Ideas : 1) Crush the pakwan, pour dal on it. 2) Add more tamarind chutney if desired, top with curd and serve garnished with coriander leaves.
