Cholaar Dal

Preparation time: 25 mins Ingredients: Bengal gram: 3 cups Water: 8 cups Sunflower oil: 3 tb Cloves: 2 Small cardamom: 3 Bay leaves: 2 Red chilly: 1 /var/www/hin seeds: 1 ts Coconut: 1/2 cup /var/www/hin paste: 2 ts Coriander paste: 2 ts Ginger paste: 1/2 tb Red chilly paste: 1/3 ts Green chilly paste: 1/2 ts Turmeric: 2/3 ts Small pieces of coconut: 1/2 cup Raisins: 20 gms Cashews: 20 gms Sugar: 1 ts Salt: To taste The Steps: Pre - Preparation : 1) Shred the coconut and soak the raisins in water. 2) Chop the cashews. Preparation : 1) Pressure-cook the dal on medium flame for 5 five whistles. 2) Take care that the grains are tender but not disintegrated. 3) Take a deep frying pan, heat oil and fry the coconut pieces till light brown and strain them out. 4) Fry the whole red chillies, bay leaves, /var/www/hin, cloves and cardamom 5) Now add shredded coconut and fry till light brown. 6) Mix green and red chilly paste, /var/www/hin paste, coriander paste, turmeric powder and fry with the rest till brown and the oil starts leaving the masala. 7) Now add sugar and salt to the boiled dal along with the water left in the pressure cooker. 8) Then add to the fried masala and cook for few minutes. 9) The gravy should be thick. 10) Garnish chholaar dal with raisins, cashew and fried pieces of coconut. 11) Cooking on medium flame recommended.
